      • Electric hot water tank (used as back up). A solar panel, situated on the side of the house, preheats the water coming from the well into this tank, which then feeds into the propane tank for heating. This raises the well water temperature going into the propane tank from 7 degrees C, to as high as 40 degrees C, significantly reducing the energy needed to heat the water. (New tank in 2018)

      SIPs panels https://www.sips.org/about/what-are-sips were used for exterior wall construction and engineered floor joists for the flooring. All windows are low-E and argon filled. The exterior of the Lakehouse and garages were designed for low maintenance and have vinyl siding with rock facing, and a steel roof.

    • Heating

      Pellet Stove burns approximately 4 tonnes of pellets per season (November to Mid-March), depending on the season. Cost for 2018 was $1,500.00.

      Oil furnace is typically used between seasons only. The tank is filled approximately every four years. Cost to top-up in 2018 was $310.00.

      Propane is used for hot water, fireplace, BBQ and the whole house generator. Cost of propane in 2018, including rental of two tanks, was $1,250.00.
